Rupert has more than twenty years of industry experience as a product management, operations, marketing and business development professional. Before joining Renishaw Diagnostics, Rupert was Head of Marketing and Business Development within the Spectroscopy Products Division of Renishaw plc, and prior to that held senior positions at GE Healthcare and Amersham Biosciences. Rupert is a proud Welshman and a first language Welsh speaker. He and his wife have two children which occupy most of his out of office time but he does find time to pursue his other passion – rugby; he is Chairman of a local junior club and coach of his son's under 14s team.
Ewen Smith Ph.D
Professor Smith, founder and former CEO of Renishaw Diagnostics, is a spectroscopist and chemist with particular expertise in understanding and applying surface enhanced resonance Raman spectroscopy (SERRS) in the development of informative and sensitive assays. He is an emeritus professor and a co-director of the Institute of Nanometrology at the University of Strathclyde. Professor Smith has over 290 published papers and, with G Dent, has published a book entitled Modern Raman Spectroscopy – A Practical Approach.
Caterina Netti Ph.D
Caterina has been with Renishaw Diagnostics since its foundation (July 2007). She was Chief Scientist and co-founder of Mesophotonics Ltd (2001-2007) where she led the research, development, and commercialization of Klarite SERS substrates which were acquired by Renishaw Diagnostics. She has over 10 years experience in developing novel optical-based analytical applications and materials. She was awarded a PhD in Physics in 1998 from Bari University (Italy).
Alastair Ricketts Ph.D
Alastair oversees all work in the Diagnostics, Development and Science sectors of the business. He has held positions as a research fellow in the areas of forensic science, cancer biology (Beatson Institute for Cancer Research) and SERRS bioanalysis (University of Strathclyde Centre for Molecular Nanometrology). As part of the POC+ team funded by Scottish Enterprise that led to the foundation of D3 Technologies Ltd, he has been involved with the company from the start. Alastair was awarded a BSc (Hons) in 1998 from the University of Leicester and a PhD in 2001 from the University of Strathclyde, both in Molecular Microbiology.
Jim Greaves Ph.D
Jim joined Renishaw Diagnostics in July 2010 with over 25 years of commercial life sciences experience, including Director-level positions at Invitrogen, CXR Biosciences and ITI Life Sciences. After gaining his PhD at Leicester, he worked in the Public Health Laboratory Service (Microbiology & Virology labs) before pursuing a marketing career with a number of 'blue chip' technical and scientific companies. Jim is married with 3 children and spends much of his free time restoring his Victorian house, tinkering with his car and watching his favourite sports; rugby union and cricket.
Walter Bartholomew
Walt joined Renishaw Diagnostics in Jan 2011 with over 20 years of industry experience in entrepreneurship, product management, acquisitions, operations, venture capital, business development, and senior level sales. Before joining Renishaw Diagnostics, Walt was Director of Business Development and Regulatory Affairs, and part owner for the venture capital backed medical device company, GrantAdler. Prior to this Walt held senior level roles at GE Healthcare, Genetix, Roche Molecular, and Abbott Labs. Walt resides on the Board of Directors for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Lehigh Valley Chapter, PA and has lobbied in Washington D.C. on their behalf to aid in the fundraising efforts to find a cure. Walt is married and has two children.
Ross Stevenson, Ph.D
Ross joined Renishaw Diagnostics in 2011, bringing with him a wealth of SERRS experience from his 4 years of post-doctoral studies spent in the labs of Prof Graham at the University of Strathclyde. Prior to that, Ross graduated as a chemist at the University of Edinburgh, completing his PhD at the same institute, where he worked to develop novel DNA diagnostic tools (aptamers) for the detection of specific proteins. Ross enjoys golf, football and rugby, and any other spare time is spent helping maintain the horses at his livery yard.
Julie Bardin, Ph.D
An analytical chemist by training, Julie graduated in 2005 with a Masters in Forensic Science from the University of Lyon, France. During her post graduate studies Julie held numerous placements at the University of Strathclyde before moving to the UK full-time to complete a PhD in Solid-State and Computational Chemistry at the Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy. She consequently worked as a Research Assistant within the Chemistry Department at the same university before joining our Field Applications team in 2011.
