Field Applications Specialist*

Renishaw Diagnostics Limited (RDL) requires a Field Applications Specialist to be responsible for assisting customers in the successful application of the company's instruments, software, reagents and kits. The successful applicant will be comfortable interacting with customers in both clinical and academic settings, and be capable of adapting RDL's technology to their needs. The incumbent will take ownership of issues to ensure customer satisfaction by providing quick assistance and effective problem resolution. The Field Applications Specialist will also support field sales personnel with exhibitions and customer demonstrations.

Key duties:

  • Supervise installations on customer sites
  • Assess customers' operational needs and match with our product solutions 
  • Train new and existing customers in biological applications of our products, both on-site at the company and off-site at customer locations
  • Work in partnership with Sales, Service Engineers and other resources to provide effective customer support through telephone, e-mail, and direct interaction
  • Communicate customer and product feedback to Marketing and R&D to further improve quality and the customer experience
  • Assist in testing, validation, and documentation of new applications and products 
  • Maintain technical service database and reference files, documenting response times and delivering on commitments made to customers
  • Actively contribute to maintenance of quality systems  
  • Contribute to technical publications, application notes, SOPs and so on
  • Act as the first point of contact for vigilance and post-market surveillance

Key requirements:

All applicants are required to have the following:

  • A BSc (2:2 or higher) or MSc in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Virology or related fields
  • Significant industry laboratory experience with molecular biology, assay development or advanced spectroscopy 
  • Previous industry experience of customer interface responsibility
  • Expert proficiency with molecular diagnostics, assay development, spectroscopy and related instrumentation
  • Practical knowledge of infectious diseases, molecular biology, and fluorescence-based assays
  • Fluent written and spoken English
  • Frequent travel to customer sites will be required and so flexibility will be required

Although not essential it would be desirable if applicants have some of the following:

  • Some experience of instrumentation installation
  • Knowledge of  IVD medical devices, medical devices or diagnostics
  • Knowledge of biochemistry, molecular biology and genomics, and related  assays and equipment
  • An understanding of ISO13485 and ISO9001processes
  • Knowledge of assay design and troubleshooting
  • A second (European) language

Person specification:

The successful applicant will have excellent communication, project management, and time management skills.  They will be capable of working as part of a small team, but also independently at customer installations and training.  The duties of the role are varied and the successful applicant will be comfortable undertaking bench work, presenting data and explaining technologies to different audiences.  Finally, the individual in this role will be confident in interfacing with customers and holding science and technology demonstrations. 

Location:

The role is based at the RDL site in Glasgow.  Travel to customer sites will also be required and will make up about 50% of the role.
